Gong Seung-yeon Reveals “Harsh” Comments On Her Theater Challenge From Sister TWICE’s Jeongyeon

During an interview regarding the play “The Secret of Flowers” in Gangnam, Seoul on March 4th, actress Gong Seung-yeon expressed her thoughts regarding her first experience on a theater stage.
Regarding the satire depicted in the play, the actress shared, “We, the actors didn’t think of it as a satire. We only tried to portray the lives of our characters faithfully”. When asked about the mistakes she made on stage, Gong Seung-yeon confessed, “It wasn’t a big mistake. I once hit a pillar while walking through the door. Sometimes, I forgot my lines when moving the props because I was distracted by them”. She also mentioned her worries when practicing for the play.

Adding that she had a friendly competition with Ahn So-hee and Lee Yeon-hee, who played the character Monica together with her, Gong Seung-yeon revealed how they often gave feedback on each other’s performance and even imitated each other. She shared, “We even share the same clothes, and it actually helps us become closer”. Comparing Monica portrayed by Ahn So-hee and Lee Yeon-hee’s version of the character, Gong Seung-yeon said, “So-hee’s Monica is cute and lovely, while Lee Yeon-hee’s portrayal gives off a warm vibe”.

In addition, Gong Seung-yeon mentioned TWICE’s Jeongyeon, saying that her younger sister often gave “harsh” comments on her performance. She explained, “Jeongyeon watched the play and said it was really fun, but then she said, ‘Your voice is off.’ She even said, ‘When actress Jung Young-joo and you came out, I could easily tell that your voice was not as good as the senior actress. As expected, musical actors are really on another level”.
Lastly, Gong Seung-yeon humbly admitted her lacking acting skills compared to other actors, adding “I hope people don’t judge me individually when I’m on stage with other actors”.
Meanwhile, “The Secret of Flowers” performances will continue until May 11th.
